ABOUT EKSTEEN IN ART
ABOUT
Gallery Kunst & Beterschap (K&B) is an initiative of Hans Eksteen & Jakop Maarschalk The exposition space, the original house of the village doctor at the Sloterweg in the old village Sloten, has first been designed as such, in August 1986. Inspired by their love for modern art, the goal was to open the practice and living part of the house for young starting artists. Originally for 6 times a year for a period of 6 weeks each. Over the years the ‘house gallery’ became a popular place to be. Not only starting artists have liked to exhibit their works, but also well known artists. They come from The Netherlands: Nelson Carrilho, José van Gool, Saskia Heuer, Diana Thiry and Anton Vrede. From Germany; Christian Rothmann, Ena Lindenbaur and Klaus Zylla. From Portugal; Fernando Pinheiro and Koos de Wet and Anastasia Sarantinou from South Africa. And a lot of well known celebrities participated with their opening speeches. Next to his different jobs at the film and television industry, Hans Eksteen, the creative part of Gallery K&B took part in several art shows as KunstRai in Amsterdam, LineArt in Gent en Holland Art Fair in Den Haag and he had been commissioned to design several big exhibitions, in de Grote Kerk in Naarden Vesting and at the Feyenoord Stadium in Rotterdam. In 2005 the house in Amsterdam Sloten has been sold and a year later Hans Eksteen & Jakop Maarschalk moved to South Africa. Hans Eksteen now organises and designs exhibitions with the name EKSTEEN inArt at different locations and will be working from his base in South Africa. His aim is to create ‘an exhibition exchange’ between artists from South Africa and Europe.
